Each region has its own characters, its own vocabulary and its own way of being polite — and the coach tells you when a word is local rather than universal.
Lisboa
A pastelaria, a tasca, a barbearia, the CTT counter, a first day at a ceramics atelier. A bica, se faz favor, and «pois é».
São Paulo
The padaria, a boteco in Vila Madalena, a feira, the metrô, a job interview. E aí, beleza?, valeu, and «tá ligado?».
Lubango
A pastelaria in the highland cold and a candongueiro stop at the Praça da Mutundo. Ya, bué, «não há maka», and kwanzas counted out at the counter.
Maputo
A barraca on the Marginal and a chapa from the Museu. Maningue, «estamos juntos», peri-peri prawns, and prices in meticais.

Portuguese from your language — not just from English
Almost every Portuguese course assumes you already speak English. If you don't, you're learning one foreign language through another. Here the conversation is Portuguese, but everything around it — the task, the corrections, the note explaining why your sentence sounded off, the pronunciation coaching — is written in your own language.
