Meeting Your Child's Teacher in English: What to Say
You can open the meeting with: “Thank you for meeting me. How is Maya doing in class?” (Thank you for seeing me. How is Maya doing in class?). Listen to both the positive and challenging feedback, ask what can be done at home, and request repetitions of anything you don't understand. You have the right to request an interpreter.
English Phrases with Interpretation
A parent-teacher meeting is short and always covers the same topics: how's it going, what's challenging, what can be done. Change the name and subject to yours.

What is hardest for her right now?
Is it the reading or the math?

How much should she read every day?

How to Adapt Your Answers
- Requesting repetitions doesn't leave a bad impression: the teacher would rather repeat than have you leave without understanding your child's plan.
- Bring a written question. If the conversation is fast-paced, you'll have the one that matters most ready.
- In many districts, you can request an interpreter in advance and it's free. “Can I ask for an interpreter next time?” is a normal and accepted question.
