How to Get a Driver's License in English: What to Say at the Counter
At the counter, you can start with: “I'm here to apply for a driver's license” (I'm here to apply for a driver's license). Take a number when you enter, have your documents ready, and if you're missing something, ask for it in writing: “Could you write down what I'm missing?”.

- Always ask for what you're missing in writing. Leaving with a written list saves an unnecessary second trip.
- “Proof of address” or “proof of residency” is a document with your name and address: a utility bill or a rental contract usually suffices.
- If you're not in the right line, they'll tell you promptly; asking “Is this the right line?” upon entering takes ten seconds and saves half an hour.
